Photographer Miika Hämäläinen

I’m Miika Hämäläinen, a professional photographer based in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland. I photograph people, weddings and businesses across Finland, with wedding assignments increasingly taking me around Europe as well.

I want being in front of the camera to feel relaxed and natural. My job is to make you forget the camera is even there. I’ll guide you when needed while keeping an eye on the light, expressions and small details that turn a good image into a great one.

I look for emotion, strong visuals and impact without making things feel artificial. At its best, the result makes you think: “I didn’t know I could look like that in a photograph.”

I’ve worked as a professional photographer since 2007. Experience has taught me to read people, situations and changing conditions quickly – when to guide, when to let a moment unfold and where to find the light or angle. that makes an image work.

During a shoot, I’d rather feel like part of the group than someone watching from the outside.

My work has received recognition both in Finland and internationally. Recent achievements include Winner of Wedding Photo of the Year 2026, 1st place in Finland and worldwide in the Best Wedding Portrait category at Suomen Parhaat Hääkuvat 2025 as well as awards from Way Up North Awardsand Finnish Photo Awards competitions.

Awards are a great recognition of the work I do. But in the end, the most important image is the one that feels right to the person in it.
